Its name comes from wood processing, which was turned into planks and then transported to Tevere springs to reach Rome.
The Castle was built by the family of Sigismondo Malatesta at the beginning of the 14th century. In 1458 Federico da Montefeltro ordered the demolition of the castle, which was rebuilt under the project of Francesco di Giorgio Martini, who finished it before 1474.
In 1631 it became part of the Papal State, but in 1885 it was given together with surrounding territories to Petrangolini, who obtained also the title of Count. In the middle of the 21st century it was sold to a person who turned it into a restaurant.
