Peglio is a small town of the Marche of only 700 people. In the past it was an old Roman settlement that was called “Castrum Pilei”. Nowadays, it is a small town with a few people and some houses located on a hill overlooking Metauro Valley. Thanks to its position, Peglio offers a wonderful panorama, which is even better if you admire it from its tower. In fact in this location the scenery is oriented toward hills and mountains of Apennines. It looks like this small village prevails on surrounding towns.
The Medieval Bell Tower still preserves its original architectural plan and its impressive size. Besides, it overlooks small streets of the village below and the church of St. Fortunato, which is dedicated to St. Fortunato, who actually used to be Bishop of Todi. It was one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Urbino. By 1800 it was restored and extended, and in particular the brick façade in Baroque Style was created. The church is characterized by two crypts created in Longobardic period and by valuable series of 14 ceramic tiles representing the Via Crucis.
